Creating a floppy disk from a disk image

Create the Disk in Linux

  1. Insert a blank floppy disk into the floppy drive. Be sure that the write protect tab is closed
  2. Run the following command as root:
  3. dd if=<image file name> of=/dev/fd0
  4. Wait for the disk activity light on the drive to go out

Create the Disk in Windows

  1. Download and run Rawwrite for Windows from http://www.chrysocome.net/rawwrite
  2. Insert a blank floppy disk into the floppy drive. Be sure that the write protect tab is closed
  3. For "Floppy Drive" select "A:"
  4. Click the "Write" tab
  5. For "Image File" use the "..." button to browse for the floppy image file
  6. Set the "Number of Copies" (generally 1)
  7. Click the "Write" button
  8. Wait for the disk activity light on the drive to go out
